New Giordana Velodrome video

New video of the Giordana Velodrome under construction in Rock Hill, SC has surfaced recently on YouTube. “We pitched the idea [of the velodrome] to the city of Rock Hill through the Parks and Rec,” says Michael Cowan, Rock Hill Velodrome concept founder in the video. Sound familiar? That was in 2002. We have a long row to hoe!

Savage Sprints at Hot Italian 2.1 results

With the new registration, timing and results system from TimeYourRace Results our events are more organized than before and move along at a nice pace, getting everyone home at a resonable hour.

Pre-reg is up for the next event and we are extending our offer for the season discount one more time. Seven races for the price of six! Do it now! Brian Hickey from KCRA will probably be at the next event so come on out and show your support.

There will be kids bikes set up for the little ones to get their sprint on from 4:30-5:00. The kids bikes are 43 cm Fuji Track bikes and will fit most kids from about 8-12 years of age.

Me wants [drool] Scalextric slot bike velodrome

Be the envy of all your velodrome desiring friends with the Scalextric Team GB Velodrome Set. At 272cm, it’s not Olympic distance, but Scalextric reports that this slot racing set follows the traditional slot racing format. However instead of using cars, there are two miniature cyclists dressed in GB kits. The set features a banked oval track, with two challenging chicanes to test your nerve. They also say it’s perfect to introduce the younger slot racer to the action-packed world of Scalextric racing. How about introducing the younger racer to the action packed world of velodrome racing for only £69.99?

Now if it were magnetic cyclists on a vibrating velodrome, I’d be in.

Savage Sprints at Hot Italian-Season 2

October 23, November 6 and 20, December 4 and 18

January 8 and 22, February 5 and 19

Remember this is a fun and low key “race” (excuse to party) to raise awareness for our velodrome project. We are putting on a show for the community and local government.

We are doing pre-registration and results this year through TimeYourRace. We get asked all the time, “What can I do to help get our velodrome built?” Well here you go. It’s a flat rate of 10 bucks (we are eating the service charges) to pre-reg and will save us 10-20 hours in online busy work per event. Ten bucks is as low as we could go to make the system work so I appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding. This little exercise will go a long way toward showing the community and local governments that we are serious and organized. We will be giving any left-over spots away on race day on a first come–first served basis beginning at 4pm. Day-of registration will close at 4:30…NO EXCEPTIONS PLEASE! Sac trails two velodromes under construction

Construction at the Chicago Velo Campus

Sacramento’s greatest hope for a velodrome in more than 25 years appears to be taking shape at a good time in history. Two new velodromes are under construction in the United States, one in Rockhill, SC and the other in Chicago, IL. When completed, these two projects will bring the total number of velodromes up to 24 in the U.S. Add to that the beginnings of the project in Colorado which already owns its own land, and it appears that the Sacramento Velodrome project is gaining steam at a prolific time in U.S. track cycling development.

The Chicago project, a 166m track, will be built as a temporary facility and bills itself as a bridge to the Chicago Velo Campus group’s vision of a world class indoor velodrome and cycling campus.

The possible new site of Sacramento's next velodrome?

The Sacramento Valley Velodrome Association announced a major step forward in the development of a track venue in Sacramento this week. Executive Director and CEO, Dean Alleger walked into a meeting with Scott Wolcott, the President of Granite Land Company regarding the possibility of building a velodrome at Granite Regional Park. He walked out confident and elated.

It seems, Wolcott had invited Dain Domich and Sally Freedlander of Separovich/Domich Real Estate Development to the meeting where Alleger gave a bit of background on his velodrome efforts to date. He included his background in track racing, the organization’s drive for non-profit status, and the association’s desire to create a grass-roots, world-class velodrome in the Sacramento valley. Mansker: How to crush it

So there’s this thing called the Google which turns into a spider that crawls on the interwebs for searching for hyperlinks or something, and it’s really quite amazing what you will come across. Project London posted an interview shortly after Kevin Mansker raced…ahem, won…no, crushed the Savage Sprints roller races at Hot Italian. The post titled Kevin Mansker Interview – How I Crush Rollers includes such Manskerisms as “I came, I saw, I crushed and less than 8 seconds later I was out the door,” and “Hah, [a] trucker hat would have been a great touch.” The below video of Mansker racing one-legged was featured along with the post.

Mansker sets track record at 2011 Fixed Gear Classic

From Project London’s Facebook page comes a link to this video of highlights from the Fixed Gear Classic at the National Sports Center Velodrome in Blaine, Minnesota. The 2-minute collection of clips includes Kevin Mansker’s track-record run in the Flying 200 meter. Mansker, a two-time Savage Sprints competitor, is an avid SVVA supporter–he recently drove 1100 miles round-trip to compete in the championship event which he won. Mansker is interviewed in the video at the Fixed Gear Classic, part of the Nature Valley Bicycle Festival.

“If the weather was any colder or any more windy it wouldn’t have happened,” said Mansker who set the new track record at 10.50 seconds.
